A visit visa gives 60 days with two possible extensions, up to 180 days in total. It is the standard instrument for people coming for longer than a tourist stay but not yet ready for full residency.

It differs fundamentally from the visa on arrival. The e-VOA gives 30 days with one extension — 60 in total — and is arranged at the airport. The visit visa is arranged in advance, before departure, but gives three times as long. For anything beyond a month or six weeks, that difference decides it.

What it permits: social and family visits, business trips, negotiations, attending conferences, viewing property. What it does not permit is work, either for an Indonesian company or for local clients. Remote work for foreign clients sits in a grey area on this status, and closing that gap is precisely why the E33G KITAS exists.

The main practical mistake is leaving the extension late. It is filed in advance, before the current period expires, and requires attending immigration in person. Being late means a fine for every day overdue and a risk of worse.

Many people use it as a transitional status: they arrive on it, incorporate a company, and move to an investor KITAS from here.

Common questions

How does it differ from the visa on arrival?

The e-VOA gives 30 days with one extension, 60 in total, and is arranged at the airport. The visit visa gives 60 days with two extensions, up to 180, but is arranged in advance.

Can I work remotely?

Formally the visa does not contemplate work. Remote work for foreign clients sits in a grey area on this status — the E33G KITAS was created to legitimise it.

What if I am late with the extension?

An overstay fine accrues at roughly 1,000,000 IDR per day, and a long overstay escalates to deportation and an entry ban. File the extension early.

Can I switch to a KITAS without leaving?

In some cases a change of status without departure is possible. The procedure depends on the target permit type and current rules — we check at the time of your enquiry.
